WINDANSEA SHACK PATCHING.

In March 2023, the Historical Windansea Shack fronds were replaced. Several months later, a storm hit and tore a few of the fronds, leaving a hole. Jim Neri and Kip Ives trimmed the damaged fronds to prevent further damage, but as time went on, the need for patching and repairs became evident.

To maintain the shack’s historical integrity, the patch had to use Canary Island Date Palm fronds. One of the challenges was finding date palm fronds that had not been infested by the South American palm weevil, an insect that left San Diego with a graveyard of infested date palms in 2023. Fortunately, suitable fronds were found.

So, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Friends of Windansea assembled a work crew and patched the hole on the northwest side.
