FRIENDS OF WINDANSEA

Friends of Windansea is a small independent organization whose goal is to solicit and encourage maximum citizen participation to preserve, restore and enhance the natural character and beauty of the Windansea Beach area. The organization first started back in 1946 when a group of surfers built a sideless hut, cemented eucalyptus poles, topped by palm frond and now called, the surfers shack (which is a protected historical landmark)

FRIENDS OF COAST WALK TRAIL

Created by locals over a decade ago, Friends of Coast Walk Trail is a nonprofit organization solely operated and funded by community donations to restore and preserve the 0.6 mile trail along the bluffs of La Jolla coastline. Originally intended to be used as a road in the 1920s, Coast Walk Trail is deemed a “paper” street that is managed by San Diego’s Transportation Department. Designated as a historic asset in 1990, Coast Walk Trail is believed to have been used for over 9,000 years, collecting countless notable events throughout its presence.

La Jolla Historical Society

The La Jolla Historical Society celebrates the history and culture of this region along the water’s edge through interdisciplinary programs, exhibitions, and research that challenge expectations. It balances contemporary and historic perspectives to create understanding and connection.

Unique in its role as an historic house museum, LJHS develops projects that cross disciplinary boundaries and explore the relationship of culture to society, collaborating with guest curators, artists, architects, and other cultural producers. Programs include exhibitions, presentations, symposia, discussions, interviews, architecture tours, youth education, and annual community events such as the Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla and the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. LJHS consults with the City of San Diego regarding landmark designation of properties located in La Jolla.

Bird Rock Community Council

We’re a vibrant neighborhood of local businesses, surf shops, restaurants, fitness studios, coffee shops and awesome boutique businesses! Wander down the boulevard and enjoy the custom and colorful mosaic benches, socialize with the friendly neighbors and spend time living like a local in San Diego’s coolest little community.

LA JOLLA COVE SWIM CLUB

The La Jolla Cove Swim Club sponsors the second oldest open-water swim in the United States. Year 2024 will mark 108 years since the first race was held. It has been run almost exclusively by volunteers and community members. The La Jolla Cove Swim Club (LJCSC) boasts a diverse membership of people that love open water swimming. Some of us take our time swimming slowly to the buoys and back, while others of us train and master the Catalina Channel, English Channel, and Manhattan Island Marathon swims. Some wear wetsuits even in the summer, while others swim through the winter without one.

The club is open to all-male, female, young, old, slow or fast. This is an informal club, with no regular meetings, that is, not on dry land, at least!
